Bowl Chair Now Open – Feb. 4

February 4, 2023

We have received approval from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) on all modifications and we are cleared to re-open Bowl Chair as of today, February 4, 2023.

It has been determined that this incident was a result of a chain of events – the loading skiers maintained extended contact with the snow surface just outside the load deck and when the chair underwent its natural twist, due to the loading of the riders, the chair was unable to self-correct before entering the first wheel assembly. This resulted in causing the leading edge of the chair grip to catch and derope, engaging all safety systems as designed, stopping the lift.

We have worked closely with the lift engineer to modify the first assembly, installing a different design of wheel, now with an inner flange, as well as installing a new longer, deeper inner rope guard. Modifying these components from the original design will ensure that there is more surface area to deflect the leading edge of the chair grip in the event that it remains twisted going into the assembly. It has also been determined that shortening the period of time that riders remain engaged with the snow, allowing them to be suspended earlier, will allow the chair to self-correct before entering the first wheel set in the load station.

Thank you again to all of our Members, Season Passholders and guests for your continued understanding as we navigated this unexpected pause on Bowl Chair and the terrain closure.
