2019 Ontario Parasport Games At Brimacombe

From February 8 to 10, 2019, Durham Region will welcome over 500 athletes, attendants, coaches, managers and officials, as well as hundreds of family members and friends, participating in the Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games. Over 200 volunteers will help bring these Games to life and hundreds of spectators are expected to attend the Opening Ceremony and competitions. The Games will feature athletes competing in 11 sports at eight venues across the Region.

This weekend, Brimacombe will be proudly hosting the Para-Alpine and Para-Nordic events as part of the Ontario Parasport Games hosted by the Durham Region on February 9th and 10th. We would like to invite everyone to come spectate and cheer on the athletes as they go for gold on the slopes of Brimacombe!

Brimacombe is excited to welcome 42 parasport athletes and support staff as we host the Para-Alpine and Para-Nordic events!

What is Para-Alpine?
Para-Alpine encompasses athletes with varying physical abilities. Athletes compete in three categories: standing, sitting or visually impaired in the same disciplines as able-bodied skiers. Certain adaptations are used to make the sport accessible to its athletes. Some of the most common adaptations that are used are special equipment (sit-skis, outrigger skis, etc.) and a guide.

What is Para-Nordic?
Para-Nordic encompasses athletes with varying physical abilities. Athletes compete in three categories: standing, sitting or visually impaired. Certain adaptations are used to make the sport accessible to its athletes. Some of the most common adaptations that are used are sit-skis and the use of a guide.

Tentative Schedule:

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Slalom Racing (Para-Alpine)
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Race Session 1 (Para-Nordic)
1:00 p.m. – Slalom Medal Ceremony (Para-Alpine)
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Giant Slalom Racing (Para-Alpine)
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Race Session 2 (Para-Nordic)
12:00 p.m. – Race Session 1 & 2 Medal Ceremony (Para-Nordic)
1:00 p.m. – Giant Slalom Medal Ceremony (Para-Alpine)
