Lesson Programs Still Running This Weekend!

There’s no denying that the return of the Canadian Winter has come. Cold winds, snow and low temperatures are all a reality of winter, but being prepared and investing in quality layers means you don’t have to let the elements stop you from getting outside and hitting the slopes. Part of skiing and snowboarding is learning to enjoy the sports in all kinds of winter weather!

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or it’s your first time on the slopes – layered clothing is absolutely necessary to maximize your comfort. Please ensure you or your child have the following:

  • Base Layer – For optimal comfort outdoors, a base layer should contain merino wool or synthetic fabrics with moisture-wicking abilities. Thermal underwear is also a great option in below-freezing temperatures. Cotton should be avoided.
  • Middle Layer – Wool, goose down, and other natural fibers are wonderful insulators. Polyester fleece is a very popular middle layer for its durability, ability to absorb minimal moisture and trap warm air.
  • Outer Layer – Ski/snow pants are a necessary component of your layering. As long as they are waterproof and windproof they will block the chill and help you remain dry and warm.
  • Ski Mitts – mitts work better as the heat of the fingers together keep the hands warmer
  • Ski Socks – light, breathable, and fast-drying
  • Balaclavas & Neck Gaiters
  • Hand/toe warmers

Brimacombe is a winter sports facility dealing with a wide range of weather challenges. We always encourage people to make their own decisions about their threshold of comfort outdoors and on our slopes. At this time, we will be remaining open with our lesson programs running as usual this weekend.

Our Brimacombe Snow School staff are trained on recognizing signs and symptoms due to extreme cold and will work to ensure there are breaks taken as needed, to warm up throughout the lesson.

We look forward to all of our #WinterWarriors joining us on the slopes this weekend!
