Camp Brimacombe Update: Masks At Camp

Due to a recent update in the Ontario Ministry of Health's COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for Day Camps, Brimacombe has been able to make the following changes to our Mask Policy for campers:
  • Masks must be worn by camp participants indoors.
  • Masks are not required in outdoor spaces within a camper's designated cohort.
  • Masks are required if within 2 metres of someone outside of their cohort.
  • Masks are required at pick-up and drop-off.

Our goal at Camp Brimacombe will be to keep campers outdoors and physical distanced; however, we know that this is not realistic at all times. We know our campers love to stay active, get dirty and play hard, so we ask that you send at least 2 masks  so campers are able to change out their mask if it becomes soiled, damp, damaged, etc.
  • Must meet the guidelines of Durham Region Health Department
  • Must cover the nose, mouth and chin and be in contact with the surrounding face without gaping and must be able to filter respiratory droplets.
  • Made of 2+ layers of tightly woven fabric (such as cotton or linen)

Please note, if the mask is damaged, or if there are breathing or ventilation holes, or it is a single layer of material, it will not be acceptable as a mask.

Additionally, we recommend supplying your camper with 3 separate storage solutions:
  1. To hold the camper's current mask
  2. For the camper's clean back-up masks
  3. For dirty masks
Clean back-up masks and dirty masks can be stored in the camper's backpack in their own storage, however, the camper's current mask must be stored on them at all times.

The storage solution of their current mask must:
  • be easily accessible on your camper at all times so they can quickly and easily put on/ take off their mask (not stored in backpack)
  • provide protection from water/dirt/germs while not being worn
We recommend a waist pouch or protective case on a break-away lanyard to store their current, in-use mask.

Guidelines around the use of face coverings will always meet or exceed the most up-to-date requirements of our Public Health for day camps.

Our staff will be reminding campers on proper mask wearing, when necessary, and strive to provide as many mask-less opportunities in our outdoor spaces, by ensuring physical distance is maintained.

Additionally, Camp Brimacombe has implemented a number of policies and procedures to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to protect our campers and staff. This includes daily screening of all campers and staff, increased hand washing by providing more hand washing stations, physical distancing and enhanced cleaning and sanitization of all camp program areas and facilities.

As we continue to navigate the guidelines for day camps, we will continue to keep our camper parents/guardians updated on the latest information!
